Equine Health App

Individual Project

2022

About Project
While dealing with health issues with my horse, I was wishing there was a way I could know the current state of my horse’s health even while away from the barn. After researching different existing products, it was determined there was nothing on the market that would constantly monitor the health status of a horse in a safe manner.
I wanted to develop an app that would be paired with a (later developed) device that could let the caretaker know exactly how their horse is doing at any given moment.
Interviews and surveys were performed to determine what horse owners valued in monitoring their horse’s health. Results showed that most owners want to be able to read their horse’s vital signs, such as heart rate, respiratory rate, gut health, hoof and leg health, and any swelling that is present.

User Testing
User testing was done with the users operating the prototype on their phone. They were instructed to go through each scenario as I observed, then give their thoughts on the app. Feedback consisted of improving the colors of the app, fixing hierarchy issues, adding a few features, and making visual elements more user friendly.
